Fitness Test Makeover

After Inge's sharing, I realised that I had been following a fitness test that wasn't exactly the one used by the United States Marine Corps. So I did a search for all the fitness tests available - Marine, Army, Navy, Air Force, Ranger... and I finally decided to revamp my training program to model after the
Marine and the Army Fitness Test Standards.

Previously, my training programme is designed to achieve the targets below:

80 push-ups in 2 mins

80 sit-ups or crunches in 2 mins

2-mile run in 13 mins

12 chin-ups or pull-ups

After looking at the Marine's and Army's Fitness Tests, these are the revised targets:

77 push-ups in 2 mins (Nice numbers!)

100 sit-ups in 2 mins

3-mile run in 18 mins

20 chin-ups

Apart from these targets, I am also aiming to run at least one more half marathon before going to the States. Most probably it will be at the Laguna Phuket International Marathon on June 14, 2009. This is a considerably cheap place to travel to, as compared to many other international destinations. And this is also because it is a race that uses the chip to time the runs. I won't join the Kuala Lumpur International Marathon because:

1. It doesn't uses the chip, and
2. There's no half marathon event, and
3. It's in February, the month I am going for my wedding photo shooting in Guangzhou, China.

The problem of not using the chip is, maybe you won't be timed correctly, and maybe they will stop counting, just like my previous experience with the 10km.

Oh well, here's looking forward to a new training regimen and the next half marathon. Have a blessed and beautiful Thursday, friends!

Small Footprints, I can't join the Ironman, because I can't swim, least to say the 2.4 mile swim that is part of the Ironman, and I don't have a bike. So most of my training is on foot, or on land :)

Thanks for dropping by Donna and Mys Lyke Meeh :)

I think you can meet your goal! I appreciate the "plugs" from you. I love the photo! That looks like a jarhead to me!

You are starting to make me feel guilty however. I haven't run in a very long time and I didn't think I would miss it but after reading all of your posts, I have to admit I do. I just wish I had found your blog in the summer:)

Hi Inge', I had to google jarhead, and realised that it's a military slang for Marine! LOL :)

It wasn't my intention to make anyone feel guilty though :p Running is good for health, and yes, I somehow agree with you that those who used to run a lot last time and then stopped for a long time might develop the guilty feeling after faithfully reading a running enthusiast's blog :)

Probably you could start with the treadmill or something while waiting for spring or summer?
